About Midwest Soccer Academy

Since 1973, Midwest Soccer Academy has been building its legacy as being the best in soccer education. MSA was founded by Klaas De Boer in 1972 and started residential camps the following year. Since then MSA has been staffing their camps with top International coaches primarily from Holland and America. All coaches have professional or collegiate playing and/or coaching experience. The curriculum of the Dutch vision of coaching is found deep in the roots of the Academy. It is because of these roots that MSA is the top camp in the Midwest.

Tony Shard: 2006-Present

Originally from Manchester, England, Tony had the fortunate opportunity of playing with the likes of World Cup stars Nicky Butt, David Platt and Paul Scholes. While growing up in the English youth system, Tony played as a schoolboy for then English Premier League side Oldham Athletic. After playing collegiate soccer in Florida, he went on to coach at the NCAA Division I level with Northwestern State and McNeese State University before moving to the Midwest.
Tony aims to continue the MSA legacy of providing the highest quality soccer educators to soccer players in the United States for years to come. In addition to continuing the renowned residential camp programs, Tony also introduced a revamped day camp program to the MSA list of offerings in an effort to take the opportunity of providing high level soccer coaching to all areas of the country.

Bud Lewis: Midwest Soccer Academy 1999-2006

In 1999, Bud Lewis took over the Academy from Klaas De Boer. At this time many other soccer camps were becoming competition camps, but Bud knew it was important to keep Midwest Soccer Academy focused on teaching, training and developing players using the Dutch Training Methods. An emphasis also needed be on the technical and tactical development of the players. Bud Lewis also knew it was time to add new camps that would challenge the top players in the Midwest. This led MSA to design new camps such as the Dutch Touch Premier and the Women’s Elite Week which are among the top camps in the country.
